Baltic Sea One Day Cruise

We first traveled the channel in 1993 while on a trip to Riga in Latvia. At that time, the area had just been opened to foreigners. However, at that time, we were traveling on a Russian hydrafoil ship from Gdansk to the harbor city of Svetildj, on the way to Kaliningrad. We traveled this time not as far, but still past all the major docks for the Russian Navy. The most deplorable sights, in 1993, were the many ships just rusting away from lack of maintenance. This time only those ships that seemed servicable were noticeable. One area that had been full of deserted vessels was on this trip empty of anything.
